Relationship Tip #10:
Getting to know you. One of Gallup's infamous "Q12 survey" items that has been found to increase the level of engagement on a team is “having a best friend at work.” We feel that just having friendly relationships on the team is a great first step, yet some work teams are so formal that people dread coming to work. One great exercise that helps teams get to know each other on a personal level is “
Three Truths and a Lie.”
Each person tells four “facts” about themselves- three which are true, and one which is a lie. The team must decide which is which. This is a fun exercise that can help relieve stress and get folks feeling more committed to the team as relationships develop. Beyond formal exercises, the best way to develop closer relationships is for the team to spend time together informally. Why not a weekly, or at least monthly, lunch together as a team? Be intentional about this. Make it a task to set up lunch dates on the first of every month or the weeks will slip by without anyone making this happen.
