Goal setting for both work and personal success! Encourage team members to set "personal goals" as part of their individual development planning process in addition to work-related goals. Include an informal check-in with at least one team member's progress with personal goals at each team meeting, if time permits. Celebrate the achievement of both personal and work goals. Connect team members that have similar personal goals for mutual support and ideas. Share success stories in internal newsletters. Check on progress of both personal and work goals at target dates set by the employee as part of his/her personal development planning process. By tracking both personal and work goals, the team leader communicates caring and interest in the employee's success. This is a hard-to-find work place attribute that builds employee loyalty like nothing else you can do. It costs nothing but time and the genuine interest of the team leader.
